I was born in the late '80s to 2 lesbian moms. My 'twin' brother was adopted before I was born, my sister and I share a birth mom but not a sperm donor. Family has never meant blood. All of this matters, and so it's a story I've been telling since I've had words to speak.
It also matters that for most of my life I was the first kid of gay parents that most people had ever met. When I spoke - and I needed to speak - I spoke for the legitimacy of gay families. So what emerged was a feigned perfection. It took me a decade to start having honest conversations. Once I did, I couldn't stop. In July 2015, I launched Gathering Voices.
It is a joy to be the curator behind this project. Welcome. Soak up the stories - listen to audio, experience excerpts of narrative, read about the process. I'm so glad you're here. With heart, Sammy Sass
